My three favorite movies

Arrival

the last movie i saw, was in the cinema the last year, its name is "arrival". this movie has become one of my favorite films, since it talks about of a very interesting topic for me: the comunication between diferents cultures.

The plot talk about of two Scientists who make contact with two seven-limbed aliens, whom they call "heptapods"

These people do not know how to communicate with them. For this reason they must teach their language to the aliens, to know what they want from humans.

My favorite scene is when they discover that aliens want to teach humans a new form of communication that will change the whole world. This makes a lot of sense to me since Sapir-Whorf said that language determines the way people think.

Interrestelar

The first time i saw this movie was about 3 years ago. I liked it so much that i could not avoid going to see it to the cinema more than twice. It's been a long time and maybe if I saw it again it would have a new meaning for me. At that time, it made me understand about the importance of caring about our planet and our responsibility to become aware of our social and economic reality. The salvation of our species is only possible through the union and sacrifice of our most selfish interests.

The plot of this movie is situated in a fictitious future. Joseph Cooper is an experienced engineer and pilot who works together with his two children in his own farm where to cultivate is increasingly difficult due to the destruction of the planet. This endangers the existence of humanity. Cooper discovers a place where some scientists are trying to take a human species to another planet through a wormhole.

Cooper is chosen to direct the mission, which becomes a difficult decision since this endangers his life. He will have to choose between his family and the future of humanity. This is a very well made film with a very complex scientific language that it is difficult for me to understand, but it is worth making this effort since it conveys a very pleasant message about the meaning of life seen from the perspective of science. The most significant scene was when Cooper reviewed the messages his children left him for 23 years. He discovers that the relativity of time has made him lose his family, is a very sad scene and reflects the sacrifice of this character.

Machuca

I saw this movie for the first time in 2015. At that time someone was talking about Chilean cinema and how some movies portray the history of Chile before the dictatorship. Machuca is a film that shows two sides of society. on one hand side reflects the reality of poor people who seek better opportunities and equal rights and on the other hand shows the prejudices and rejection of the elite towards the most vulnerable population. This film tells the story of Gonzalo Infante a boy who studies in Saint Patrick's, a school whose students come from the upper class and Pedro Machuca a boy who lives in a very poor area. Both become friends and to know through their friendship the worlds from which they come.

The coup d'etat of 11 of September of 1973, generates a break in the relation of these friends. the adminitration of Saint Patrick's is handed over to the Chilean Army, The priest McEnroe is dismissed, ending with his idea of integrating students of various social classes into one school.

I really like this movie because it shows how the dictatorship impact in a very violent way to Chilean society, in this case the gap between social classes became much broader, this movie shows very well these facts for people like me that we do not know much Well the history of chile.

  1. For me, Machuca is the best film produced in Chile. This shows the reality of the time with the great differences between classes.

  3. With respect to the first film, I think it's amazing how language marks a way of thinking, there are words that in a different language do not have a translation or simply do not mean anything, because the cultures are different, each one sees the world in a way Distinct
